Profile:
Dexterton Corporation started in 1962 and was then known as Chesterton Industrial Corporation. Chesterton started out as a hardware store located along Rizal Ave. in Caloocan. In the mid 60s, the company wanted to head into a new direction and adopt a completely new business strategy. This new strategy is to look for top quality products that were better and exceeded those currently available in the market. During that time, most industrial hardware products were of U.S. origin. And very few products of European origin were finding its way into the market during the 1960s. And so our focus shifted to countries like Germany, Switzerland, Austria, etc. where there were companies and products that have better quality than US made products. This is also the time when our company determined that whatever product that we will bring in, it must be of high quality and this is the kind of reputation that we want our company to have from now on. We were not sourcing products coming from Taiwan, Japan, or Korea, we were sourcing products from Europe.
Considering the challenges during those times and how small our company was, it was a very bold act to approach those big European companies. But the idea and hard work paid off. In 1972, Chesterton started its own importation of industrial hardware items and became the sole agent for SIA (Swiss Industrial Abrasive), SUPRADURO Plasters (Germany), and TYROLIT Abrasives (Austria). These 3 brands became the building blocks for a young company determined to make its mark in the industry. And soon, Chesterton became a name recognized for high quality European industrial products.
During the 1980's, Chesterton diversified its product range from computer, office, stationary, industrial, and hardware products. These new products are now coming from the USA and Japan. But our formula for choosing these products have not changed since the 1960s - look for superior products that could outperform those established brands in the market. Chesterton was the leading importer of computer diskettes in the early 80s. From 1982 up to 1984, Chesterton was the sole distributor for VERBATIM (USA) computer disks in the Philippines.
In 1988, Chesterton Industrial Corporation was renamed to Dexterton Industrial Corporation and established a new division called the building materials division. The start of Dexterton coincided with the construction boom of the late 80s and early nineties. The first brand that we carried was GROHE faucets from Germany. From this period, a lot of our new products were building material related such as bathroom fixtures, builder hardware, furniture fittings, etc. In the early 90s, Dexterton actively promoted the use of modern building materials in the Philippines such as gypsum boards and wall and ceiling metal framing during a time when plyboard was still commonly used. In 1992, we started importing ceramic tiles from Italy and the first brand we carried is Marazzi.
exterton which started out as a small hardware store located along Rizal Ave. in Caloocan has now become among the Philippines top 2,000 corporations and with more than 200 employees and still growing. In year 2000, we finally moved into our 8th storey showroom building in Sgt. E. Rivera St., Quezon City. This period marks as an important chapter in our companys history as we have now achieved our long time goal of building a world class showroom. A second showroom building was built in 2001 to house our new products which were Italian furniture and lighting.
The company name was changed again from Dexterton Industrial Corporation to Dexterton Corporation since we are no longer just an importer of industrial products. We have now become a one stop shop for building, home, and furniture related products. In 2006, we opened our Makati showroom in Lepanto Building. In 2009, we moved our Makati showroom into the prestigious GREENBELT 5 mall. In line with the rapid development of the FORT BONIFACIO area, Dexterton has also purchased its own property in Fort Bonifacio in 2002 and is now building a 22 storey Dexterton Showroom Condominium Building at the Fort which will be finished by January 2015.
