Bonifacio brings to light a high-impact true to life story of Andres Bonifacio (Robin Padilla) with his virtues and humanity unfolding in our eyes at this day and age through the character of a young and inquisitive student (Daniel Padilla).
The movie also shows the roles that some of our national heroes played in the light of the Spanish oppression and occupancy. The bond that was established as they strategically plan the revolution and how deception, power and personal interests blinded them to even go up against one of their brothers (Bonifacio), sacrificing the true spirit of love for the country and their fellowmen.
Aside from being critically acclaimed by various award-giving bodies such as the Metro Manila Manila Film Festival of 2014 and PMPC Star Awards of 2014, the movie is considered as revolutionary as it tackled a highly controversial part of Philippine History that is often missed out in academic discussions.
A source of inspiration to effect changes to our country plagued by a vicious cycle of problems that Bonifacio faced over a hundred years ago, the film is compelling to make us understand the lessons of the past, and how Bonifacioâs death perpetuates a legacy of bravery and courage to each and every Filipino freedom fighter including the young who will become our future leaders.
